Pride pomeni veliko stvari: proslavo, zgodovino, druženje, upor.
Šele, ko bodo najbolj utrjene sistemske meje in prepreke odpravljene, bomo živele_i v svobodni, odprti in solidarni družbi.
Pride means many different things: celebration, history, gathering resistance. But if one were to describe this year’s edition with a single word, the one that comes to mind is solidarity. More than ever before, we want to emphasize the urgency of connection, empathy and mutual aid, which we believe to be the building blocks of a better, more just society. It is crucial that we show solidarity with LGBTQIA+ individuals and other marginalized groups, with ourselves, and those who co-create our movement by joining us in the fight for human rights.
The organizers of the Maribor Pride Parade, along with the entire Maribor through Pink Glasses team, are extremely honored to be able to announce, for the first time, our partnership with Friuli Venezia Giulia Pride from Italy, the organizer of the international Pride event between Nova Gorica and Gorizia in September. In addition to being Slovenia’s record-breaking fourth pride parade after Maribor, Slovenj Gradec and Ljubljana, the event is a crucial gesture of unity between two cities that are culturally and historically inseparable. But beyond the two cities, it will also connect communities, people, and hearts that live in separation despite a common goal of freedom and equality.
Before the pandemic, we had almost forgotten about many of our borders. The events of this past year serve as a bitter reminder that they are still in place, but where physical borders were closed to protect our health, there is no excuse for the borders that stand in the way of freedom of expression, claiming one’s rights or accessing resources for many among us. Borders are never equally tight for everyone: they are most frequently abused as a shield against those our society neglects or deems undesirable. We will only live in a free, open, and solidary society once the most fortified of systemic borders and obstacles are abolished.
We are proud to work with FVG Pride on breaking down those borders and we wholeheartedly support the historic parade between Nova Gorica and Gorizia that will take place on September 4th. At the same time, we express our sincere gratitude for all of their support and would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome them to Maribor, where they have agreed to speak at our parade. We hope to grow this special relationship in the future and look forward to further collaboration.
